With the fifth and final BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global just over a week away, parts of Singapore will be taken over with tennis fever for the very last time.  The Singapore Sports Hub will be home to the action on the tennis court, with 11 sessions featuring the greatest eight Singles players and Doubles pairs in the world, as well as the WTA Finals Fan Village, which will incorporate the Singapore Tennis Festival again. Meanwhile, Singapore’s city centre will play a strong supporting role, coming alive with tennis-themed activities, entertainment, delectable F&B stalls, and official WTA Finals events as part of Courtside by the Bay.

Courtside by the Bay, the 10-day downtown festival (19 – 28 October), held at the Event Plaza along the Promenade facing Marina Bay Sands will offer the public an opportunity to experience tennis fringe activities and lifestyle elements, right in the heart of the city. The beautiful waterfront will provide the backdrop for player and legend appearances, the Official Doubles Draw Ceremony on 23 October, as well as same-day match screenings.

Tennis-themed activities include a special photo exhibition celebrating the legacy of the WTA Finals Singapore. Visitors can also discover the magic of Spectra, a captivating light and water show staged along the Promenade every night. The public can also enjoy a free concert on October 20 as part of the Marina Bay Sands’ concert series, Open Stage, which showcases home-grown and regional music acts.

Speaking about Courtside by the Bay, Sarah Clements, Vice President, Tennis – Asia, Lagardère Sports, said, “When we brought the WTA Finals to Singapore, we wanted to turn the tournament into a world-class sporting, lifestyle and entertainment festival. Over the past five years, we’ve worked with the Singapore Tourism Board and all our partners to ensure that we take the festival atmosphere to the community across the island. From Suntec City, to CHIJMES and now Marina Bay Sands, we’ve created a downtown festival proposition that will excite tennis and casual fans alike with plenty of magical and Instagram-worthy moments.

“With player and legend visits, tennis-themed activities, F&B, music and entertainment and even match screenings, Courtside by the Bay will provide a fully immersive and engaging experience to augment what’s offered on court”.

Said Ms Jean Ng, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board: “The WTA Finals Singapore experience for fans extends far beyond centre court into the heart of the Lion City itself. With complementary initiatives like Courtside by the Bay, we are confident that visitors would be inspired to discover Singapore’s wide range of lifestyle offerings, and to deepen and share their passions.”

Besides Courtside by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands will be a flourish of tennis activity. The iconic hotel will be home to the greatest eight singles and doubles pairs during the WTA Finals, and will also host the black-tie Gala Evening featuring the Official Singles Draw, as with previous years.

Festivities will not be confined to the downtown area, as they share centre-stage at the Singapore Sports Hub and beyond with the Singapore Tennis Festival (STF). Introduced by Sport Singapore in 2017 to inspire more recreational and competitive participation in tennis, STF engaged more than 20,000 Singaporeans last year. Returning this year with even more activities, members of the public can sign up online for a series of free tennis clinics in venues across the island, including the Tennis Centres in Kallang, Yio Chu Kang, Farrer Park, as well as Heartbeat@Bedok.

From 20 – 28 October, STF will be co-located with the WTA Finals Fan Village at Singapore Sports Hub, where the community can also participate in tennis skills challenges, immerse in an augmented reality e-gaming experience, browse through a local artisan street market, and enjoy dance and musical performances. Also, participants who have joined the GameON Nila Challenge will get opportunities to earn Activity Stars and win attractive prizes through the STF.

“The WTA Finals has been the catalyst for many community projects and initiatives like the ActiveSG Tennis Academy, SportCares “Love Singapore” and Singapore Tennis Festival, with the belief that tennis is for everyone. October has become synonymous with Tennis in our local sporting calendar. This year we will continue to offer more fun and tennis to our people. We are working with our partners to make sport part of everyone’s lifestyle,” said Mr Lai Chin Kwang, Chief of ActiveSG, Sport Singapore.
