For 107 years, Bentley has defined high-performance luxury through handcraftsmanship, natural materials, and effortless propulsion. Making its global debut in London, the all-new Bentley Torcal arrives as the marque’s fourth distinct model line. Designed, engineered, and built in Crewe, England, it introduces the British marque’s first fully electric powertrain while completing Bentley’s portfolio alongside existing internal combustion and hybrid offerings.
“The Torcal is a Bentley first and foremost, created by hand by people who care, using the best available materials and technology to blend heritage with cutting-edge innovation. I believe this is one of the best Bentleys ever,” states Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and CEO of Bentley.
Confident Proportions: The Four Reads of Design
Shaped under Design Director Robin Page, the Torcal takes the form of a low, sleek luxury SUV governed by four deliberate visual perspectives, or “reads”:
- Proportion: A long wheelbase, short overhangs, an “endless bonnet,” and an upright frontal aspect deliver an authoritative stance rooted in classic grand tourer proportions.
- Graphic Expression: Echoes of historic icons such as the Continental T are reimagined through modern lighting signatures, an illuminated diamond front grille, and a clean “prestigious shield” rear graphic inspired by the EXP 15 Concept Car.
- Surface Language: The body deliberately minimizes superfluous character lines, letting light sculpt the tapered cabin and muscular rear haunches—a profile Bentley describes as the “resting beast”.
- Intricate Detail: Close inspection reveals a repeating diamond motif abstracted across exterior textures and cabin surfaces, anchored by Bentley’s modernized brand emblem.
Measuring five meters in length, the Torcal is the shortest four-door vehicle in the brand’s current portfolio, yet delivers generous packaging: a 460-liter rear boot, a 90-liter front storage compartment, and an agile 11.1-meter turning circle.
888 PS and 800V Architecture
Beneath the sculpted bodywork sits an advanced electric powertrain comprising two permanent magnet synchronous motors. The front motor uses an open differential, while the rear motor integrates a locking differential with dual multi-plate clutches.
The Torcal debuts in two specifications:
- Core Model: Generates 821 PS and 1,194 Nm of peak torque, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds (0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds) with a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
- Torcal S: Produces up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque—the highest torque output of any road-going Bentley in history. When launch control is engaged, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds (0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds) on toward a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h).
Energy is supplied by an 800V nominal battery pack housing 192 lithium-ion pouch cells with a net capacity of 113 kWh, backed by a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty. The vehicle yields a driving range of up to 375 miles (600 km WLTP). Supported by 400 kW ultra-fast DC charging capability, it replenishes from 10% to 80% state of charge in 16 to 20 minutes, adding approximately 100 miles of range in just seven minutes.
Chassis dynamics are governed by Bentley’s first fully active suspension system. Equipped with adaptive two-valve dampers capable of instantaneous vertical adjustment, the chassis replaces mechanical anti-roll bars entirely with active, variable roll torque. Electronic All-Wheel Steering provides up to five degrees of counter-phase rear steering for maneuvering and highway stability.
Sustainable Craftsmanship and Handcrafted Acoustic Soul
Inside the cabin, the signature winged dashboard architecture combines knurled metal switchgear and bullseye air vents with curved OLED displays and an augmented reality head-up display.
Bentley introduces sustainable bespoke materials developed with historic British mills and internal coachbuilders:
- Responsible Merino Wool: In partnership with Somerset weaver Fox Brothers, Bentley debuts the automotive industry’s first 100% Merino wool fabric certified by the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).
- Ombré Walnut by Mulliner: Layered from up to 1,000 pressed sheets of recycled paper and walnut off-cuts, sliced to under one millimeter to produce a gradient from deep black through dark smoke.
- Sunburst Aluminium: A three-way directional brushed finish reinterpreting heritage engine-turned metalwork.
- Natural Tanning: 15 shades of olive-tanned leather, paired with matching Dinamica suede and pure wool trims.
To solve the sterile acoustic nature of electric vehicles, Bentley turned to human musicians rather than artificial synthesized sweeps. Using live instruments—including drums, viola, and bass guitar—the development team composed the Bentley Dynamic Symphony, an emotive soundtrack inspired by the firing cadence of Crewe’s historic 6¾-litre V8. The acoustic output adjusts dynamically to speed and torque demands, complementing an optional 1,780W, 28-speaker Naim audio system equipped with Dolby Atmos and headrest drivers.
Through modern electrification, sustainable British craft, and chassis architecture, the Torcal demonstrates that zero tailpipe emissions can comfortably coexist with the grand touring ethos that has anchored Bentley since 1919.
