De Majestic Vines officially launches Okinawa Gin in Singapore. Created by Masahiro distillery in 2017, Okinawa Gin is the first of its kind from its namesake, the tropical southern Japanese island. With powerful notes of citrus and calming tropical flavours, this spirit is an enchanting reflection of the place to which it owes its name.
Okinawa Gin is a craft gin based on Okinawa’s history, technology, environment and raw materials. It is the only craft gin that balances the distinctive botanical origin and the rich layers from the Awamori.
Masahiro distillery, renowned for making the traditional Okinawa spirit, Awamori for over a century, adapted existing gin-making methods from Europe with its own distillation technology accumulated over a century of Awamori-making to produce its new endeavour. It was said that when the first drop of Okinawa Gin was dripped in the distillery, the whole factory was filled with a wonderful aroma never experienced before.
To make this gin, the craftsmen introduced 6 different types of botanicals that would best bring out a Gin’s characteristic – Shekwasa (a green citrus native to Okinawa), guava leaves, and pipatsu (Javanese long pepper). The recipe also includes goya, the anti-aging, cucumber-shaped bitter melon and a type of hibiscus called roselle. Together, these locally foraged botanicals harmonize perfectly with the juniper berries to form a gin that embodies the tropical climate of Okinawa, and a taste totally unique and truly exotic to our palate.
“We were determined to bring Okinawa Gin into Singapore as we believe it has an interesting brand story that resonates with the Singapore consumer – a new product inspired by traditional methods and birthed through the spirit of innovation, which honours and proudly represents its heritage,” Sean Ou, Head of Territory & Product Development for De Majestic Vines. “And with the popularity of Japanese cuisine and products continuing to rise, we feel that Okinawa Gin deserves its place among the well-recognised labels.”
With its delightful floral aroma and tropical fruits notes, the Okinawa Gin entices drinkers to keep going back for the next sip. At 47% ABV, it is surprisingly palate-friendly; a refreshing and pleasant spirit that is almost too good on its own for classic cocktails like the Martini and Gin & Tonic. Okinawa Gin can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a Gin Rickey. The pairing of soda water with Okinawa Gin enhances the refreshing aroma with citrusy flavours.
Okinawa Gin is currently listed at Ce La Vi Singapore, Atlas Bar and The Gong by Drinks & Co.
Okinawa Gin is distributed in Singapore and Cambodia exclusively by De Majestic Vines. It is available for purchase on shop.demajesticvines.com.
