Porsche unveiled the new Cayenne for the first time in Singapore today. The third generation of the successful model, of which more than 760,000 units have been sold worldwide since its launch in 2002, is a completely new development. Since then, more than 1,000 vehicles have been sold in Singapore and the model continues to be an integral part of Porsche’s success. The vehicle combines even more of the typical Porsche performance with excellent everyday practicality.
The exclusive premiere, held at Infinite Studios Singapore, brought the Sportscar Together concept to life by showcasing the unique social characteristics of the new Cayenne in four experiential zones – Escape Together (postcards), Thrill Together (Virtual Reality), Taste Together (chocolate art installation) and Share Together (photo booth and social media wall).
Francis Lee, Managing Director of Porsche Centre Singapore, said, “Over generations, the Porsche Cayenne ignited a trend for performance SUVs that remains alive to this day. The new Cayenne is more precise, elegant, athletic and expressive than ever before and is the only true sportscar in the SUV segment. Without a doubt, the new Cayenne is the best there has ever been and is set to continue the success story begun by its predecessors.”
In Singapore, the V6 turbo, V6 twin-turbo and V8 twin-turbo models will be available: The Cayenne with 250 kW (340 hp), the Cayenne S with 324 kW (440 hp) and the star of the premiere, the Cayenne Turbo with 404 kW (550 hp). The new Cayenne Turbo features a new generation 4.0 litre V8 bi-turbo engine with 770 Nm of torque. The new 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox allows the Cayenne Turbo to accelerate from 0-100 km in 3.9 seconds (with Sport Chrono Package) and reach a top speed of 286 km/h.
Henrik Dreier, General Manager – Singapore, Porsche Asia Pacific, added, “The Cayenne is a very popular Porsche model since day one, which initiated the growth of our brand around the world including Singapore. The main contributor to the success is that the Cayenne is and remains a true Porsche that can be enjoyed in daily life as well as on the race track.”
Improved performance and practicality
The new Cayenne offers improved driving performance through the introduction of new innovative technologies. At the core of the all-new brake system – the Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB), are discs with an exceptionally hard tungsten carbide coating that work in unison with specially developed brake pads. Built to last even under extreme stress, the PSCB delivers stable braking and has 30 per cent longer service life and improved responsiveness as compared to the conventional grey cast iron brakes.
With this new technology, after around 600 kilometres of day-to-day driving, the pads will have polished the surface of the discs to a gleaming shine, creating a mirror-like finish whilst generating less brake dust. The new PSCB works with new tires that range from 20 to 21-inches.
The new Cayenne Turbo is the first SUV in its segment to feature an adaptive roof spoiler. The new adaptive roof spoiler is a seamless continuation of the roof contour and is a part of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics. With the adaptive roof spoiler capable of deploying new air brake technology, drivers are provided with a driving experience that is sportier and safer.
Increased stability and greater manoeuvrability
For the first time, the new Cayenne now has rear-axle steering which allows greater manoeuvring. At low speeds, the feature allows the axle to steer in opposite directions, while at higher speeds, the axles steer in the same direction. This new development improves the agility and handling precision of the new Cayenne.
Performance and stability is now improved in the new Cayenne with the availability of the Porsche 4D Chassis Control. The Porsche 4D Chassis Control is centrally controlled through a networked system that analyses driving situations in three-dimensions (3D). Adding further stabilisation, the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) sets new standards in terms of driving dynamics. The PDCC also adjusts the stiffness of stabilisers in axles to further stabilise the Cayenne and reduce roll movement.
Visual and practical improvements
Redefined technology is also found in the new Cayenne. Distinct LED headlights include four-point daytime lights, showcasing the latest LED technology. The LED headlights are characterised by 3D light modules which provide an extremely high-quality, sculptured headlight that further emphasises the future-orientated light technology. At the front of the Cayenne, large central intakes cool the re-engineered engine while large side intakes cool the brakes.
The rear of the Cayenne has also seen significant changes to achieve a sportier and cleaner look. The new Cayenne boasts a distinctive light strip with a 3D PORSCHE logo, rear LED technology 3D light design and four-point brake lights. The lighting technology works seamlessly with the sportier flyline to emphasise the sportscar genes of the Cayenne.
Driver-centric interior design
The new Cayenne also includes features that improve practicality. The new Comfort Access feature makes the luggage compartment, which is adjustable to a volume of 770 litres to 1,710 litres, more accessible with state-of-art technology that allows the tailgate to open just with a small foot movement below the rear bumper. A part of the Comfort Access feature enables keyless unlocking and locking of the vehicle in addition to keyless ignition.
The new Cayenne is centred heavily around the driver. With the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, the new Cayenne offers a new type of interaction between the driver and the car. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) consists of a 12-inch full HD touchscreen display, a multifunctional steering wheel which controls the on-board computer and a central console that operates selected functions with Direct Touch Control. Aesthetically improved, the PCM is finished with high-quality glass and touch-sensitive buttons that give access to important functions, enhancing the most modern operation with a perfect look and feel.
The interior of the new Cayenne houses the instruments which monitor the performance of the car. Centrally located at the centre of the instrument cluster is the analogue rev counter, flanked by two full-HD displays, Power & Drive, to the left and right respectively. These displays can be controlled via the multi-functional steering wheel.
For drivers who wish for increased driving dynamics and direct responsiveness, the optional Sport Chrono Package with Mode Switch allows them to select the desired driving modes from Normal, SPORT and SPORT PLUS – providing greater options for driving experience. In addition, the driver is able to store their individual set-up and retrieve specifically programmed modes at the rotation of the mode switch.
In summary, the new Cayenne incorporates even sharper design, greater power and performance, and new innovations, making it a true leader in its class.
