Sonos Introduces Sonos 27: The Next-Generation Audio Operating System with Open AI Control, Sonos Fabric, and New Ultra Flagships

For more than two decades, Sonos has defined the multi-room, connected home audio experience. With the official arrival of Sonos 27, the Santa Barbara audio pioneer is taking its most consequential strategic leap to date. Rather than operating simply as a collection of linked hardware devices, Sonos is transforming its platform into a fully fledged, adaptable audio operating system engineered from the ground up for the home.

Unveiled alongside this major software evolution are two new flagship additions to the brand’s portfolio: the Sonos Beam Ultra soundbar and the Sonos Ace Ultra over-ear headphones. Together with an open artificial intelligence framework, spatial room awareness, and an overhauled mobile interface, Sonos 27 reimagines how sound moves across modern living spaces.

An Open Approach to Artificial Intelligence

The most radical architectural departure in Sonos 27 centers on voice control and intelligent assistance. Where most technology ecosystems lock users into closed, proprietary digital assistants, Sonos has embraced an open-platform approach that grants listeners complete freedom of choice.

The system introduces Sonos 27voice, the company’s dedicated assistant built expressly for music discovery, playback control, and mood curation. Stripped of generic search distractions, it concentrates strictly on natural and responsive audio commands.

For broader queries and conversational control, the platform debuts Sonos 27mcp (Model Context Protocol). This integration bridge allows users to link external AI assistants and agentic models directly into their sound systems, headlined by a native partnership with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Listeners can speak to ChatGPT via phone or computer to direct music playback to any room in the home without breaking the flow of their ongoing conversation.

Looking toward the future of ambient home computing, Sonos also previewed Sonos Custom Agents. This feature will allow listeners to build and deploy personalized AI agents within their home audio network, choosing specific foundational models, distinct personalities, and custom voices suited to different household tasks. Rather than relying on a single generalist assistant, users will soon have the tools to assign the right specialist agent to the right job.

Sonos Fabric: Moving Sound Dynamically Around the Home

Complementing its software intelligence is Sonos Fabric, the underlying system architecture that enables Sonos products to detect each other’s physical proximity and adapt in real time.

One of the standout capabilities powered by Sonos Fabric is Headphone Linking, introduced as an Early Access feature for the Sonos Ace Ultra. By utilizing newly developed hardware called Headphone Engine 2, the headphones connect straight into the wider Sonos ecosystem. With a simple push of a physical button on the earcup, a listener can seamlessly push audio playing on a nearby soundbar directly to their headphones—or pull it back to the room speakers when returning home—without needing a phone nearby.

In addition, the platform introduces Sonos Positioning Technology, which uses inaudible high-frequency audio pulses to calculate a speaker’s exact spatial coordinates in a room. This unlocks Portable Surrounds, a feature that allows compatible portable speakers to automatically transform into rear surround channels the moment they are placed behind the seating area, and then revert back to standalone portable speakers once picked up.

Two New Ultra Additions: Beam Ultra and Sonos Ace Ultra

To showcase the high-bandwidth capabilities of the Sonos 27 operating system, Sonos is expanding both its home theater and personal listening categories with two new flagship products.

Sonos Beam Ultra

The Sonos Beam Ultra redefines compact living room cinema. While preserving the sleek, space-conscious form factor of the Beam line, the soundbar integrates nine custom acoustic drivers, including two dedicated upward-firing drivers that deliver true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos spatial audio.

The acoustic architecture includes a redesigned center channel engineered specifically for vocal clarity, reinforced by four adjustable levels of AI Speech Enhancement. It also features dedicated Night Sound processing for late-evening viewing, deeper native bass response, and automated Trueplay room tuning. For connectivity, the soundbar supports HDMI eARC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, while integrating seamlessly with external subwoofers and portable surrounds.

Sonos Ace Ultra

The Sonos Ace Ultra represents the next tier of premium over-ear personal listening. Built around custom-engineered 40mm dynamic drivers and the new Headphone Engine 2, it combines hi-fi musical performance with zero-friction home theater hand-offs through TrueCinema room calibration.

The headphones feature next-generation Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) powered by a ten-microphone array that dynamically analyzes and dampens ambient noise. Battery performance delivers up to 35 hours of continuous playback with ANC engaged. Alongside low-latency wireless streaming, the headphones support lossless wired connections through USB-C and standard 3.5mm audio inputs.

A Refined App Experience

To bring these new software tools and hardware devices together, Sonos has rolled out a completely redesigned Sonos 27app. Developed with extensive feedback from the global user community, the app introduces streamlined navigation, responsive room-grouping controls, and faster setup flows. It functions as a unified control hub alongside the conversational Sonos 27voice assistant and the browser-based Sonos 27web portal.

Pricing, Finishes, and Retail Availability

Both flagship products are available through authorized retail channels and regional distributors.

  • Sonos Beam Ultra is priced at S$1,299 and comes in Black or White.
  • Sonos Ace Ultra is priced at S$699 and comes in four color finishes: Black, White, Agave, and Sand.

In Singapore, exclusive distribution is managed by TC Acoustic. TC Acoustic webstore (tcacoustic.asia), the Sonos Flagship Store at Wheelock Place, and the TC Flagship Store at The Adelphi. Online pre-orders on Lazada Singapore and Shopee Singapore, with official store and general retail availability commencing on 29 September 2026.

By unifying acoustic engineering with open artificial intelligence and dynamic spatial hardware awareness, Sonos 27 shifts the boundaries of modern audio—delivering a system that grows smarter and more capable with every room it touches.
