Few milestones in horology carry the emotional resonance of a dual anniversary. For independent Swiss watchmaker RAYMOND WEIL, 2026 marks two defining chapters: the 50th anniversary of the Maison founded in Geneva in 1976, and the centenary of the birth of its visionary founder, Mr Raymond Weil, born on October 10, 1926.
To commemorate both landmarks, the family-owned Maison has unveiled the Freelancer World-Traveller (Ref. 2762-STC-02026), an exclusive limited edition of just 260 pieces worldwide. Combining a GMT complication with a rotating 24-city worldtimer, the timepiece pays homage to Raymond Weil’s lifelong passion for aviation, exploration, and international relationship-building.
A Century of Spirit: Honoring a Nomadic Visionary
When Raymond Weil established his eponymous brand in Geneva in 1976, the Swiss watchmaking landscape was embroiled in the Quartz Crisis. Rather than retreating into safe territory, Weil charted his own course, demonstrating entrepreneurial boldness by launching an independent mechanical watch brand.
Throughout his career, Weil was an avid traveller and a certified pilot who held a profound passion for flight. For him, crossing time zones was far more than commercial necessity; it was an avenue to connect with diverse cultures, understand regional sensibilities, and build personal relationships across continents. Many of the retailer and distribution partnerships established during his early journeys endure today under the stewardship of second and third generations.
Leading the Maison today is Elie Bernheim, Raymond Weil’s grandson, who conceived the Freelancer collection in 2007 as an embodiment of independence, self-determination, and intuitive entrepreneurship.
“The Freelancer World-Traveller is, of course, about travel, but what resonates with me most is what travel meant to my grandfather,” says Elie Bernheim, CEO of RAYMOND WEIL. “For him, travelling was a way of connecting with others. He was curious about people, cultures and different ways of thinking, and he built RAYMOND WEIL through these encounters… This watch speaks of that openness to the world, but also of something deeply personal and familial — the passing down of a story that began with him, and which we now have the responsibility of carrying forward.”
To preserve this intimate familial link, the commemorative watch replaces the brand’s standard serif logo with Mr Raymond Weil’s handwritten signature, reproduced via decal across the dial.
Three Levels of Global Time: Architecture and Complications
The Freelancer World-Traveller combines three simultaneous time indications, engineered to balance visual depth with intuitive usability:
- Local Time: Driven by central hours, minutes, and seconds hands.
- Second Time Zone (GMT): Read via an elongated central GMT hand with a prominent red outline and Super-LumiNova insert.
- 24-City Worldtimer: Displayed along a rotating outer city ring synchronized against a dual-tone 24-hour day/night chapter ring.
Dial Topography in Relief
At the core of the watch sits an intricately stamped, multi-step relief depiction of the world inspired by the Mercator projection. The continents feature a warm champagne tone created via specialized stamping and laser texturing to emphasize topographical land contours. In contrast, the surrounding oceans are finished in a deep midnight blue, avoiding printed gradients to rely instead on material relief and texturing to generate three-dimensional visual depth.
The 24-Hour Flange & City Bezel
Framing the continents is a two-tone 24-hour graduated flange that provides immediate day and night tracking:
- Daytime (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM): Finished in matching champagne.
- Nighttime (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM): Rendered in midnight blue.
Encompassing the perimeter is a third midnight-blue disc inscribed with 24 reference cities representing standard time zones around the globe. This outer disc connects directly to the exterior bidirectional rotating bezel. Featuring an indexed, notched mechanism and newly refined fluting, the bezel offers a tactile, secure grip to align any reference city precisely with the 24-hour inner scale.
A beveled date aperture rests symmetrically at 6 o’clock, integrated smoothly into the continental topography. Applied nickel-plated indices and polished tonneau-shaped hands are treated with Super-LumiNova emitting a green glow, ensuring legibility across varying light conditions.
The Calibre RW3230: Mechanical Precision
Powering the Freelancer World-Traveller is the Calibre RW3230, a self-winding mechanical movement equipped with an integrated GMT complication. Beating at standard modern frequencies, it provides a dependable 56-hour power reserve, giving the wearer over two full days of autonomous timekeeping when off the wrist.
The movement is visible through an exhibition caseback secured by a screw-down assembly. Encircling the sapphire crystal on the reverse side is an engraving reading “World-Traveller”, alongside its limited-edition status. The openworked oscillating weight and decorated bridges highlight Swiss mechanical finishing consistent with RAYMOND WEIL’s Genevan standards.
Proportions and Ergonomics
Designed to slip easily beneath a shirt cuff during international flights or adapt to smart-casual daily wear, the Freelancer World-Traveller maintains balanced, ergonomic dimensions:
| Specification | Detail |
