As the roar of Formula 1 season enveloped Singapore, Mercedes-Benz seized the city’s high-octane energy to usher in an exhilarating new chapter of Affalterbach performance. At Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore, the marque officially pulled the wraps off the all-new Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 4MATIC+, debuting in both practical SUV and striking Coupé body styles. Alongside this road-ready duo stood a high-voltage glimpse into the future: an exclusive preview of the all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé ahead of its local market arrival.
The launch marks a dual celebration of raw combustion mastery and cutting-edge electrification. For driving enthusiasts in the Lion City, the arrival of the GLC 53 lineup bridges daily luxury with race-honed performance, landing with introductory pricing of S$475,888 for the SUV and S$483,888 for the Coupé.
The Heart of Affalterbach: Inline-Six Firepower and 48-Volt Muscle
Under the sculpted bonnet of the GLC 53 4MATIC+ sits a comprehensively revised 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine (M256M EVO). Mercedes-AMG engineers equipped the power unit with an upgraded cylinder head featuring optimized intake and exhaust ports, a newly profiled intake camshaft, a larger-volume intake system, and an upgraded intercooler.
Forced induction duties are handled by an optimized exhaust-gas turbocharger operating at a potent 1.5 bar of boost pressure, complemented by an upgraded electric auxiliary compressor. The electric compressor now operates with increased electrical power—reaching 7.5 kW compared to 5.0 kW previously—virtually eliminating turbo lag by spooling instantly across the lower rev band.
The mechanical upgrades yield a stout 330 kW (449 hp) at 6,100 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. When called upon, an overboost function raises maximum torque to 640 Nm for up to ten seconds. Working in tandem is a second-generation integrated starter-generator (ISG) nestled directly within the transmission bell housing. Operating on a 48-volt electrical system, the ISG functions as a generator and hybrid booster, supplying a momentary punch of 17 kW and 205 Nm, enabling smooth engine restarts, and optimizing fuel efficiency through energy recuperation.
Channeled through standard AMG Launch Control, both the SUV and Coupé sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h, though the optional AMG Driver’s Package can elevate that threshold to 270 km/h. A re-engineered exhaust system equipped with specialized resonators and the AMG Real Performance Sound system ensures the engine produces a muscular, authentic soundtrack that transitions from deep baritone pulls to crackling overrun notes depending on the drive setting.
Dynamic Agility and All-Wheel-Drive Traction
Transferring power to the tarmac is the rapid-shifting AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. Featuring dedicated double-declutching logic and the ability to execute direct multiple downshifts, gear changes are instantaneous, particularly when engaged in Sport+, manual paddle-shift mode, or the optional RACE programme.
Traction across varying road conditions is anchored by standard AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. The system transitions continuously between rear-wheel and four-wheel traction, tailoring power delivery depending on grip and driving intensity. In the ESP Sport setting and above, power is predominantly biased toward the rear axle, transforming into a pure rear-wheel-drive configuration when the optional Drift Mode is engaged.
Handling agility is refined by AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive steel suspension. Featuring independent valves for rebound and compression at every corner, the system delivers quick responses to road imperfections while letting drivers toggle between supple everyday cruising in Comfort and razor-sharp body control in Sport and Sport+. Braking power is provided by ventilated 390×36 mm front discs clamped by six-piston fixed calipers, complemented by 360×26 mm rear discs.
To heighten agility in dense urban environments and high-speed cornering, the GLC 53 comes equipped with standard rear-axle steering. At speeds below 100 km/h, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels by up to 2.5 degrees, noticeably reducing the vehicle’s turning circle for effortless maneuvering and tight parking. Above 100 km/h, the rear wheels turn in phase with the fronts by up to 0.7 degrees, building lateral grip faster and enhancing stability during sudden lane transitions.
For drivers seeking maximum track readiness, the available AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package bundles the electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential, active engine mounts that firm up under hard cornering, red brake calipers, and the dedicated RACE driving programme with Drift Mode.
Techgold Elegance: The Golden Accents Package
To mark the launch, Mercedes-AMG is offering an exclusive Golden Accents Package, available for just one year from debut. Customers can choose between Obsidian black metallic or Graphite grey magno paintwork, accentuated by sophisticated techgold details along the exterior and rims.
The special edition rides on matte black 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels detailed with techgold rim flanges and hub caps, revealing glossy black brake calipers beneath. The exterior visual impact is reinforced by the AMG Night Package and Night Package II, bringing high-gloss black and dark chrome finishes to the mirrors, exhaust tips, door handles, and radiator grille louvres. The included AMG DESIGN PLUS Package adds an aggressive front splitter with aerodynamic flics, a roof or tailgate spoiler lip, and a gloss black diffuser.
Inside the cabin, the bespoke theme continues with AMG sports seats draped in black leather, highlighted by techgold decorative stitching that matches the door panels and dashboard. The lightweight AMG carbon-fibre trim pieces are interwoven with subtle metallic gold threads, while door sill plates greet occupants with illuminated white AMG lettering set against an exclusive patterned background.
A Window into the Future: The All-Electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupé
While the GLC 53 champions combustion excellence, the spotlight at Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore was shared by the all-electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé.
Arriving fresh from its dynamic Asian debut at the adidas Orchard Ignition event—where Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team reserve driver Fred Vesti completed demonstration laps along Orchard Road—the four-door electric rocket previewed what lies ahead. It stands as the first series-production model built upon the bespoke AMG.EA architecture, utilizing groundbreaking axial-flux motors and a directly cooled battery architecture derived from the CONCEPT AMG GT XX development programme, which recently logged over 40,000 kilometres in under eight days to establish multiple world endurance records.
The Dual Spirit of AMG
“The GLC 53 brings together two sides of AMG that our customers value,” said Marcel Luis Mustelier Perez, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Singapore. “It is practical and comfortable enough for everyday life, but when the moment calls for it, there is the performance, response and emotion you expect from an AMG. That duality is not a compromise. It is the AMG experience. And with the GT 4-Door Coupé alongside it, we are also giving our guests a glimpse of where that same performance philosophy is heading next.”
With the GLC 53 4MATIC+ now officially roaming Singapore’s streets and an all-electric super-saloon waiting in the wings, Affalterbach has firmly staked its claim across both the present and future of automotive performance.
