Toast to Singapore Food Festival’s 30th Anniversary with a Sumptuous Gastronomic Celebration

The highly anticipated Singapore Food Festival (SFF) is back to celebrate its 30th anniversary from 19 to 30 July 2023, promising an extraordinary culinary experience for local and international foodies alike. This year, SFF will showcase Singapore’s vibrant food culture, inviting participants to embark on a gastronomic journey through its past, present, and future. With an extensive lineup of events, the festival aims to position Singapore as a world-class culinary destination and bolster the growth of the local F&B industry.

The Festival Village, located at the Bayfront Event Space, takes center stage as the largest-ever in the history of SFF, covering an impressive 17,000 square meters. Housing over 100 brands, the Festival Village offers a multitude of culinary delights and immersive experiences for visitors. Divided into three distinct zones, the Village guarantees a feast for the senses.

In the SG Food Walk zone, attendees can indulge in festival-exclusives that highlight Singapore’s diverse flavors. From curry chicken fried popiah by Mr. Popiah to calamari nachos with a belimbing remoulade by Kausmo and Ah Hua Kelong, the collaborations showcase unique fusions and sustainable practices. Other tantalizing options include papachos, veggie bajji, and prawn mee rolls by The Black Hole Group, as well as bakmi hae bee hiam from Kulon.

Food Cartel, another zone within the Festival Village, brings together renowned chefs and personalities who will conduct hybrid masterclasses and showcase their culinary skills. Chefs like Ivan Yeo, Eric Neo, Paul Longworth, and Shen Tan will share their expertise, offering participants a chance to enhance their culinary prowess. In addition, Dearborn and Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery collaborate to provide food enthusiasts with the opportunity to curate their own custom indulgence, whether it’s a personalized granola bag or a bespoke bombolini.

Café Boulevard pays homage to Singapore’s thriving café culture and local coffee artisans. Here, visitors can enjoy fine coffee and baked goods from beloved homegrown brands such as Oatside, Le Matin Patisserie, and Hapi Café in collaboration with Pourabucha kombucha. It’s a perfect spot for coffee lovers to savor the best brews in town.

For those with a sweet tooth, Sweets Alley is a paradise of traditional and modern treats. Indulge in Chinese desserts from Yat Ka Yan, savor Nonya-style handmade ang ku kueh from Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh, or explore unique flavors like sesame tang yuan and waffled putu piring from Creamier, an artisanal local ice cream company.

One of the standout attractions in the Festival Village is SG Mama Shop, a collaboration between Food Culture Singapore and Easygo AI Vending Machine. This modern take on a traditional mama shop brings together iconic brands like Sachi, Hook Coffee, and Mekhala, offering festival-goers a taste of Singapore’s cultural heritage. Exclusive SFF merchandise, including the eco-friendly reusable bag by Sidersonline, is available for purchase, allowing visitors to take home a piece of the festival.

Beyond the Festival Village, SFF offers a range of fringe events, tours, and workshops for food enthusiasts to delve deeper into Singapore’s culinary scene. Indie Singapore Tours’ Market, Mingle, Mixology tour takes participants to Tiong Bahru market, where they can source fresh herbs for their own concoctions. Pastry chef Yeo Min of Pastories hosts a heritage shophouse cake workshop, and Halal-certified Munchi Pancakes at Lau Pa Sat offer the opportunity to learn how to make traditional min jiang kueh.

This year, the festival shines a spotlight on the beverage segment, reflecting the growing trend of microbreweries and distilleries in Singapore. Festival-goers can quench their thirst with refreshing offerings from Papa Doble, Archipelago Brewery, and The 1925 Brewing Co at the Festival Village. Additionally, the SFF fringe event, Brewnanza Fest by Brewlander, will take place from 3 to 6 August 2023, showcasing over 100 unique craft beers.

The Singapore Food Festival’s 30th anniversary promises to be a grand celebration of the nation’s culinary heritage and innovation. With its diverse culinary experiences, exclusive collaborations, and immersive activities, the festival invites both locals and international visitors to raise a toast to Singapore’s thriving food culture.
