We recently got hold of the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera for review and see if it is any good as an indoor security camera. The Arlo Essential Indoor Camera is ideal for protecting any room inside your home without sacrificing privacy. The award-winning Essential Indoor Camera is an all-new addition to the Arlo Essential Series, providing superior in-home surveillance and smart home security so users can protect their homes and families. The Essential Indoor Camera allows users to easily monitor babies, pets, elderly family members and more, all while preserving their privacy.
The main feature we feel is the unique privacy shield. The contrasting design differentiates the shield from the camera face so users can easily distinguish at-a-glance whether the privacy mode is activated, or the camera is monitoring and recording video. To ensure private moments remain private, recording, as well as motion and audio detection, can’t begin unless the shield is opened by the user via the Arlo app, set to open and begin recording with the start of a live stream, or once the camera is placed in arm mode. In other words, if hackers somehow get access to the camera, it will still be blocked by the privacy shield. Users can see the white shield is covering the camera when they do not want it to record any video.
The Arlo Essential Indoor Camera boasts a wired design and direct connection to home WiFi router for simple setup. Available in white, the indoor camera features an integrated swivel mount, enabling users to manipulate the camera angle before mounting on a wall or placing on any flat surface.
Ideal for those who wish to stay connected to what’s going on at home, even while they’re away, Arlo’s AI subscription-based service, Arlo Smart, provides Essential Indoor Camera users with a robust suite of smart features and alerts. Users will receive a complimentary three-month trial of Arlo Smart for a more personalised, intelligent in-home surveillance experience, complete with customized notifications surrounding animal and people detection. We feel that this online Arlo Smart platform is another unique selling point for this device and the ease of use will attract users who do not want to setup their own online monitoring platform.
Each Essential Indoor Camera includes a complimentary three-month Arlo Smart subscription to provide users with a more personalised, intelligent smart home security experience. The subscription service utilises powerful AI and computer vision technology to deliver customised notifications, including detecting people and animals inside the home. These deeper insights about detected activity enable Arlo subscribers to not only monitor but take swift action in urgent situations. The Arlo Smart trial subscription also includes cloud recordings of video clips for up to 30 days.
At the end of the three-month trial subscription, users can purchase an Arlo Smart plan that best fits their needs for continued cloud storage and AI capabilities. Those who do not wish to continue with Arlo Smart can still live stream from their Essential Indoor Camera or view locally stored clips on an Arlo SmartHub with an external USB drive (sold separately).
The Essential Indoor Camera is meant for indoor use only and will replace the Arlo Q in Arlo’s smart home security collection.
