Dim Sum Artistry (1 to 31 March 2021, Lunch only)

Dim Sum holds a special place in our hearts (and tummies). Think Siew Mai, Har Kow, Xiao Long Bao, and many of us would not be able to say “no”. Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant has been the reliable stalwart of exquisite Dim Sum and Cantonese dining since its inception, and it has established its foothold as one of the places to visit if you are craving for Dim Sum.

This March, Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant will be whetting the appetites of foodies with refined, handcrafted Cantonese Dim Sum masterpieces that boast a creative, contemporary twist and a touch of class. Ranging from sweet to savoury, each morsel of happiness will showcase the perfect amalgamation of refined flavours, astute craftsmanship and quality ingredients that are popular amongst locals.

Love Dim Sum, as well as avocado or banana? How about enjoying the best of both worlds at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant with novelty delights – Deep-fried Vermicelli Prawn Roll with Avocado ($3.50++ per piece) and Scallop with Banana Dumpling ($4++ per piece)? Here, we are incorporating nutritional powerhouses Avocado and Banana into the creations to elevate the sweetness and natural flavours of seafood. Delightfully juicy with the right amount of texture; an interplay of sweet and fruity flavours.

Another refreshing yet familiar and tasty delicacy is the Steamed Crab Meat Siew Mai with Chinese Sausage ($4++ per piece). The star of this delicacy — crab meat is enveloped within juicy glutinous rice, and studded with savoury Chinese sausage before it is wrapped with a delicate skin and steamed. A popular local delicacy, crab is renowned for its snow white, succulent and fleshy meat that bursts with fresh, sweet flavours; the glutinous rice adds a savoury touch — creating an interesting medley of flavours.

Other noteworthy Dim Sum to look forward to comprise of Deep-Fried Chinese Chives Iberico Pork Glutinous Dumpling ($3++ per piece); Steamed Squid Ink Dumpling with Tobiko ($3.30++ per piece); Steamed Rice Dumpling with Dace Fish in Superior Light Soya Sauce ($6.80++ per portion); Purple Sweet Potato Custard Layer Cake ($2.50++ per piece); Chilled Red Bean with Coconut Cheese Cake ($10++ per portion).

Exquisite Eel Creations (1 to 30 April 2021)

Well-loved by many Singaporeans, eel is not only a delicacy commonly found in Japanese cuisine, it is also a treasured delicacy found in traditional Chinese cuisine in China. It is also a superfood that is high in vitamins and other nutrients with health benefits. In Singapore, there may be a proliferation of eel-centric Japanese restaurants, however, it isn’t easy to find sumptuous eel creations in Chinese restaurants.

This April, Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant is showcasing a menu of eel-centric dishes (using salt water white eel and fresh water yellow eel), accentuated with aged-old Cantonese recipes and bespoke Cantonese cooking methods. Rich in flavours, well-marbled with fat and especially succulent, the salt water white eel that has twice the amount of fat as compared to yellow eel, is richer in taste and boasts a softer texture. Dishes that are making their debut include Steamed Whole White Eel with Black Garlic Sauce, Fried Garlic & Spring Onion ($12++ per 100gm); Poached White Eel with Premium Chinese Wine in Superior Soup ($58++ per portion); Braised White Eel with Abalone Sauce & Fish Paste Skin ($68++ per portion).

Also in the spotlight is the fresh water Yellow eel. Expect mouthful of happiness with highlights such as Braised Yellow Eel with Morel Mushroom ($25++ per serving); Crispy Yellow Eel with Szechuan Honey Sauce ($25++ per serving); Wok-Fried Yellow Eel with Garlic & Mao Tai Chinese Wine ($35++ per serving); Wok-Fried Yellow Eel with Black Bean Sauce in Stone Pot ($28++ per serving).
