LG Electronics (LG) showcased its lineup of the new LG gram offerings, which presents a whole new scale of experience from display to portability and durability. We recently tried the LG gram 17. The flagship LG gram 17 (17Z990) is the lightest 17-inch laptop of its class, weighing a mere 1,340 grams. Given its lightweight, the gram 17 provides a suite of powerful features. A CES 2019 Innovation Awards honoree, it is equipped with a large 17-inch screen with WQXGA resolution in a compact 15.6-inch class body. The 2560 x 1600 resolution is two times that of a standard Full HD screen, and delivers fine, detailed color expression. As such, it is a massive canvas for users to edit videos, retouch photos or simply watch their favorite movies in superb quality. The 16:10 aspect ratio also allows users to view more information on screen in a glance, thus enhancing work efficiency for those who enjoy a large-screen experience on the move with portability.
Unique to the LG gram 17 is the Precision Glass Touchpad, made from durable glass to offer smooth, adaptive recognition. It also supports the configuration of various gestures for handy shortcuts provided by Windows 10, and a four-finger multi-touch for improved utilization.
Another exclusive feature on the LG gram 17 is an additional ThunderboltTM 3 port, which transfers data eight times faster than USB 3.0. A single ThunderboltTM 3 connection can transfer data at a speed of up to 40Gbps, connect two 4K displays or one 5K display such as iMac, and even charge and power up another device.
Besides the 17-inch model, the gram also comes in 15-, 14-, and 13- inch models that offer USB 3.1 Type-C connections for lightning-fast transfer.
Exceptional Portability, Reliability and Durability
The 2019 LG gram models continue to be amongst the lightest laptops available in the market today[1], successfully delivering on uncompromised portability. More than that, with the high-performance battery by LG Chem, the new gram laptops have enhanced battery life. The LG gram 17 boasts 19.5 hours of battery life on a single charge[2], and other models between 21.5 hours (15-inch) to 24.5 hours (13-inch), users can work much longer without worrying about finding a power point to recharge the laptop again. Furthermore, all the laptops have passed the MIL-STD-810G military standard of durability and reliability that checks seven factors including shock, dust, temperature and more.
Slim but Powerful Workstations That Increase Efficiency
The new LG gram models come with Dual SSD slots. With one SSD in place, it allows the addition of another SSD for more storage space when needed. The combined Dual SSD doubles the storage space and reduces the inconveniences of having to store large volume of data in an external storage device. Furthermore, the gram’s newest 8th Gen Intel® CoreTM Processor allows smooth operation of 4K contents and high-performance graphics. Also, DDR4 Memory offers fast performance when working with large files such as videos and images. Prosumers can now spend less time waiting for the work files to render, and more creating riveting content.
An Immersive Audio Experience
The 2019 LG gram laptops come with DTS Headphone:X feature, which offers a surround sound effect with 11 channels when the headphone is connected. Users can look forward to a thrilling audio experience when watching movies or editing audio files on the go.
A Streamlined User Experience
Other features that the new LG gram laptops offer include fingerprint function and backlit keyboard. With the fingerprint function, users can easily log on or awaken the laptops with a touch of the power button. No longer do they have to worry about forgetting their passwords. Need to use the laptop in dim environments? Push the power button and the keyboard’s backlight, which can be adjusted between two levels, turns on.

The LG gram is a powerful workhorse for creative professionals and globetrotters who lead fast-paced work lives. With great battery life, and more enhanced features compared with the previous iterations’, the new models are a boon for those who need high performance in a portable package. This LG gram 17 has a powerful CPU Intel® Core™ i7-8565U that performs well for daily tasks, even video rendering and editing. If only one thing we wish that it could include will be a graphic GPU like an Nvidia but that will shorten the battery life. Overall we do recommend this model and we were happy about its performance.
