Zoey’s Diner, a new casual fast diner concept has recently opened at CompassOne. It is a cosy, friendly and welcoming neighbourhood eatery.

Providing a modern take on the classic burger, Zoey’s serves its version, affectionately known as Baobae – a fusion of the Chinese bao and western burger. Made fresh daily, the 35-seater diner offers a number of Baobaes ($9.90) using lightly toasted brioche buns and handmade, dome shaped Baos for a fluffy yet crispy bite.

A total of seven Baobae options are available. The Japanese-inspired Crispy Ebi Cake, infused with garlic and coriander is finished with lettuce, tomato and wasabi mayonnaise. Personally I liked this the most, the Ebi Cake is thick and juicy.

The Sambal Fried Fish offers ikan bilis topped on a fried fish patty for that shot of local delight. Those who like spicy fried fish can try this one.

Vegetarian friends will delight with the Shrooms Bun-Mi where shiitake mushroom is paired with pickled vegetable, fried onions and a dollop of hoisin sauce. Chicken lovers have two choices that might tickle their fancy – the Moroccan Spiced Chicken made with a secret five-spice blend; or Zoey’s Chicken Burger with garlic aioli.

The Pepper Braised Steak is equal parts juicy and tender with Australian beef short ribs cooked sous vide overnight for 12 hours. We loved this too and can’t get enough of the beef short ribs.

Brunch lovers will enjoy the Morning Ham & Egg featuring eggs benedict, chicken honey baked ham and asparagus with hollandaise sauce.

Make it a set with a side of either fries, salad or soup with a drink at an additional $3.90. Choose two sides with a drink at $4.90.

• Salads

Fans of greens, Zoey’s got you! Healthy and nutritious salads are a big part of the menu. The tomato and cucumber salad is best paired with chicken, while the avocado, nuts and berries salad comes with salmon. If you’d like some carbs, the spinach and fusilli pasta, with corn kernel, walnut and cherry tomatoes is a great option.

• Sides

Three options of fries – sriracha sweet potato, Chef’s signature and truffle, take centre stage for the sides. The hearty smoked corn soup is a must-try while the homely mushroom soup is equal parts creamy and delicious with chunky mushroom bits.

• Kids’ Meal

Priced from $5.90 onwards, the kids’ menu has three offerings – battered dory fish fillet or chicken tenders, both served with fries; and mushroom chicken carbonara. All these meals come with a complimentary Yakult for extra smiles on little faces.

• Desserts

Desserts are freshly baked daily and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Choose from Zoey’s version of an apple crumble ($6.90) or the indulgent lava chocolate cake ($5.90) Both offer a perfect end to any meal at the diner.

• Drinks

Another perk of dining at Zoey’s? The diner serves beverages from bubble tea brand Winnie’s. Zoey’s menu is well balanced with a selection of Winnie’s popular choices like its’ refreshing fruit teas Lychee Rose Nectar and Peach Rose Nectar and indulgent Black Sugar Oolong milk tea. Drinks are priced from $2.20 onwards.

Zoey’s Diner does not serve pork or lard in its premises.
