Introducing the Dolce&Gabbana Spring Summer 2020 Men’s collection, an exquisite union of the opulent Sicilian baroque and Mediterranean traditions of the tropics and the past. Its landscapes, music, nature, tropical birds and animals are the inspiration behind this collection, offering a rediscovered beauty that accentuates body types inspired by great film actors of the era who escaped to the tropics for their getaways.
This season, the iconic duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana placed added emphasis on recreating a tropical mood, combining elements from the past – ’40s silhouettes, ’80s suiting, ’90s Spandau Ballet – while adding references from the brand’s archives. The resurrection of the Dolce&Gabbana archival pieces included a loose armed, high-waisted, two top-cut pocketed leather jacket that was painted with quivering pin-ups, and the reinvention of the duster coat proposed in organza, printed transparent nylon or very light cotton.
Marrying Puerto Rican foliage, retro theatrics and safari adventures, Dolce&Gabbana reinterpreted the South American style with loud tropical prints against khaki, developing into striking graphic contrasts. Extravagant equatorial graphics of watermelon, bananas, and pineapple against verdant tropical leaves lent whimsical elements to the collection, while leopard and tropical prints made striking three-piece outfits coupled with long flowing overcoats styled after robes.
Warmth, vibrancy and craftsmanship in the Sicilian Tropical collection transform the Dolce&Gabbana man into a protagonist with fresh refined fabrics and contemporary silhouettes.
