Esso and Mobil 1TM bring together racing communities for Singapore’s first hybrid drone and remote-controlled car race.

It was a day to remember for 13-year-old drone racer and Formula 1 fan Dzeroun Choong, who became the first Singaporean to team up with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

The duo joined forces in Esso and Mobil 1’s ‘Supreme Showdown’ – the country’s first hybrid drone and remote-controlled car race organised by Esso Singapore.

The event brought together Singapore’s biggest racing communities for a high-octane evening of race action to mark the start of the 2018 F1 weekend.

SCAPE was transformed into Singapore’s first hybrid race track for a day, as 20 remote-controlled car and drone enthusiasts blitzed across the visually stunning course which mimicked the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The design combined performance, power and teamwork, inspired by the core elements of Esso’s leading Synergy Supreme+ fuel.

“The work that Esso does with us on-track is extremely important, and we have seen great benefits in the development of the Esso Synergy race fuel throughout the season. Hopefully, that extra horsepower will give us a better chance of a positive result this weekend in Singapore,” said Max Verstappen, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver.

He added: “Today has been a lot of fun, and the Supreme Showdown has been a totally new experience for me. It’s very nice that Esso creates these interesting opportunities for us to interact with the fans.”

Participants aged 13-50 competed in time attacks, where the champions walked away with cash vouchers worth over $3,400.

Commenting on the opportunity, drone racer Dzeroun Choong said: “I’d like to thank Esso for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I never imagined being able to race alongside a Formula 1 driver like Max. It’s a really inspiring experience and something I will remember for life.”

Mr. Yap Peng Ann, Asia Pacific Fuels Marketing Manager, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, said: “Like F1, drone and remote-controlled car racing are a showcase of technology, mental toughness and impeccable teamwork. Thanks to our partnership with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, we’re able to provide fans in Singapore and the racing community an unparalleled first-hand experience through the Esso and Mobil 1 Supreme Showdown.”
