Quick Quotes Following Draw

Garcia: “It’s a tough draw, for sure. Only the eight best players are here. I’m really excited about it. Starting against Simona Halep. I couldn’t dream of a better start than to play against a World No. 1. It’s going to be a very intense match for sure.”

Halep: “I knew that every match is going to be tough here so I didn’t expect an easy group. It’s ok, I have tough opponents, for sure, but I’m here just to play my best and try to win every match I play.”

Muguruza: “It’s one of the most prestigious tournaments as only the last eight are here. I feel like we’re playing a semifinals or a final. It’s very exciting. You have to play your very best to win. I have some big hitters in my group.”

Ostapenko: “It’s going to be a tough match against every player here. It’s just different this format, playing every player in your group. It’s the end of the year, the last tournament, so you want to play as good as you can. I’m just happy to be here and finish my year in the top eight.”

Pliskova: “I think it’s better for me this group than the other group. I think we all play similar styles. I’ve played a lot of times with all the girls, so I know pretty much everything about it. I will prepare my best and hopefully have good matches.”

Svitolina: “It’s pretty tough. We cannot really choose. Everyone here is very strong. It’s going to be lots of exciting matches. We are here for the last tournament. I couldn’t wish for a better end. It’s always been my goal to play here. The groups are very strong. I was expecting this.”

Williams: “I’ve played every single one before and most of them this year. I’ll try to win, basically. That’s all I want to do. Nobody’s here expecting that it’s going to be an easy match. Hopefully you play your best of the season with all the matches under your belt.”

Wozniacki: “I think everyone is obviously tough. No matter who you’re in the group with it’s going to be difficult. I’m excited for the challenge and I’m excited to play the girls.”
