A Bavarian Feast by the River: An Unforgettable Experience at Food Capital
Perched elegantly along the tranquil Singapore River, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel is a beacon of urban sophistication. During our recent visit, we discovered that its allure extends far beyond its stunning location, into the heart of its culinary offerings. The Food Capital restaurant was hosting its special Oktoberfest by the River buffet, an event that promised to be a spirited and indulgent affair—and it delivered spectacularly.
The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a festive atmosphere, with the buffet a vibrant centerpiece of activity. Our culinary journey began with comforting German classics, from the rich and hearty German lentil soup to the savory German and leek soup, each bowl a warm prelude to the feast that awaited. The buffet line was a glorious display of Bavarian favorites, each dish a testament to authentic German comfort food. We savored the juicy, flavorful bratwurst with its rich onion sauce, the tangy and refreshing German potato salad speckled with crispy bacon bits, and the perfectly golden and crunchy pork schnitzel served with a side of sweet apple sauce.
On select evenings, the kitchen showcased a trio of show-stopping roasts that anchored the buffet with their impressive presence. The star of the show was the German pork shank, a magnificent piece of meat with a flawlessly rendered, crispy crackling. We also indulged in the deeply aromatic garlic & tri-pepper roasted beef and the succulent Bavarian roasted whole chicken. Each of these magnificent roasts was perfectly complemented by a selection of traditional sides, including tangy sauerkraut, crispy-on-the-outside rosti potatoes, and an earthy medley mushroom confit.
The experience culminated in a truly decadent dessert spread. The classic German apple flan offered a warm, comforting finish, while the rich, velvety chocolate ganache cake was a triumph for any chocolate lover. A particular highlight on Friday and Saturday nights was the dramatic nitrogen ice cream station, a theatrical flourish that served up deliciously fresh scoops. The grand finale was a flowing chocolate fountain, inviting us to dip an array of fresh fruits and confections for a final touch of indulgence.
Beyond the rich Bavarian spread, the buffet’s extensive seafood island and wide selection of international dishes ensured that every palate was catered to. Against the backdrop of the serene Singapore River, Food Capital’s Oktoberfest was more than just a meal—it was a spirited celebration of diverse flavors and a truly memorable dining event.
