Singapore Slow Fashion Brand Sui is Rewriting the Rules of Fashion, One Green Thread at a Time
In a fashion world dominated by speed and mass production, one brand is gently yet boldly charting a different path. Sui, founded by entrepreneur and sustainability advocate Mahima Gujral, is transforming how we think about clothing, consumption, and care. With the opening of its first retail studio in Singapore and the unveiling of its latest collection, “Meet Me by the Sea,” Sui is proving that fashion can be both beautiful and deeply meaningful.
A COMMITMENT TO SLOW, ETHICAL FASHION
Sui champions slow, ethical production that places people and the planet at the forefront. The brand works with low-impact fabrics such as organic cotton, handwoven Kala cotton, linen, and lyocell, all produced through a transparent supply chain that supports fair wages, safe working conditions, and heritage craft communities.
Every piece is manufactured either in Mahima’s own workshop or in collaboration with salaried craftspeople in India. There are no middlemen, no outsourcing to faceless factories, and no ambiguity. From fibre to final stitch, Sui maintains complete traceability and accountability. This fully in-house development model is made possible by Mahima’s deep-rooted family background in India’s garment industry, where craft and care are a way of life.
FASHION THAT IS MEASURED, TRANSPARENT, AND HONEST
Transparency is central to Sui’s philosophy. Sustainability is not just spoken of, it is measured. The brand tracks its carbon footprint and openly shares the environmental and social impact of its collections. Waste is carefully minimised, and production volumes remain deliberately small. Sui also partners directly with like-minded artisan communities and NGOs to ensure that its values are never compromised.
MEET ME BY THE SEA: SUI’S LATEST COLLECTION INVITES YOU TO FLOW WITH NATURE
Sui’s newest collection, “Meet Me by the Sea,” is a poetic exploration of nature’s rhythm, serenity and strength. Inspired by the ease, beauty and the flow of the ocean, the collection invites wearers to embrace a slower pace, reconnect with nature, and cherish garments that feel like a second skin.
The pieces reflect the essence of the sea through flowing silhouettes, hand and machine embroidered marine life motifs, and oceanic hues that range from sandy neutrals to deep-sea blues.
Standouts in the collection include airy blouses, softly structured co-ord sets, and free-spirited dresses that echo the ease of seaside living. Each piece is part of a thoughtfully designed capsule: versatile, easy to style, and created to help the everyday woman dress with comfort and ease. Crafted in soft, natural textiles with a strong emphasis on linen and handwoven Kala cotton, the collection is produced in small batches to ensure care, quality, and uniqueness. AESTHETIC WITH DEPTH AND MEANING
Sui’s clothing is not designed to follow trends. Each piece is part of a deeper story rooted in nature inspired themes, from forest trails and wildflowers to ocean tides and earthy tones, and every collection is anchored by a signature embroidered motif that reflects its unique theme. Instead of encouraging consumption for consumption’s sake, Sui invites emotional connection through garments that reflect personal values and purpose. Every collection has a name, a mood, and a message that calls wearers to dress with consciousness and care.
Among its most loved offerings, Sui’s cotton denims have emerged as all-season bestsellers. Made from premium fibres and thoughtfully tailored, these versatile staples deliver lasting style without compromising on comfort or ethics.
THE STORY BEHIND THE LABEL: MAHIMA GUJRAL
At the heart of Sui is Mahima Gujral, a creative whose personal and professional roots span both Singapore and India. A graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts and SDA Bocconi, Mahima founded Sui in 2017 to bridge the gap between sustainability and accessibility in fashion.
Raised in a family deeply embedded in India’s garment making business, Mahima developed an early understanding of natural materials, community craftsmanship, and the value of thoughtful production. This foundation continues to shape every decision at Sui, from fabric selection to fair wage practices.
“I started Sui because I wanted people to feel a connection with what they wear, to know who made their clothes, where the fabric came from, and what story it tells,” Mahima shares. “We are not here to be loud. We are here to be lasting.”
Mahima is also a committed voice in the region’s sustainability movement and has long advocated with Fashion Revolution to spark critical conversations around fashion’s impact in Southeast Asia.
A STORE THAT REFLECTS THE BRAND’S HEART
In March 2025, Sui reached a new milestone with the opening of its first physical flagship store at 100 Duxton Road, Singapore. The studio is thoughtfully laid out to showcase the brand’s silhouettes in a calm, open setting, offering visitors a relaxed space to try on pieces and build a wardrobe away from the bustle of a traditional retail environment.
Designed with the same care and intention as its garments, the studio features elements that echo Sui’s ethos, from a repurposed second-hand kopitiam table and handmade rug, to racks built from reclaimed wood sourced from old trees in Singapore. A highlight of the space is the “Journey Wall,” a visual narrative showing the lifecycle of a Sui piece from seed to stitch.
But the studio is more than just a retail space. It is a warm, welcoming hub for events, upcycling workshops, nature talks, and collaborations with other conscious brands. At its core, the studio reflects Sui’s mission to nurture not just transactions, but a community-led approach to fashion.
TOWARDS A CONSCIOUS AND INCLUSIVE WARDROBE
Sui is proudly size-inclusive, offering garments up to 5XL and custom-fit options. This is more than a sizing chart, it reflects the belief that every woman deserves to feel seen, comfortable, and celebrated in her clothes.
At the heart of Sui’s philosophy is the idea of quality over quantity. Its collections are designed for layering, mixing, and long-term wear – empowering consumers to build wardrobes that are thoughtful, expressive, and low impact. Extending this ethos to the next generation, Sui also offers its ‘Little Sui’ children’s line, a collection crafted with the same care, comfort, and sustainability, fostering early emotional connection to conscious fashion.
