Asia’s 50 Best Bars returns to Singapore’s Capitol Theatre on 9 May 2019, following the success of last year’s inaugural awards ceremony, which drew more than 450 industry VIPs and cocktail enthusiasts.
The 2019 Asia’s 50 Best Bars event programme will include an awards ceremony and party to celebrate the extraordinary talents across the region on Thursday 9 May, as well as an edition of the #50BestTalks thought-leadership forum featuring leading bartenders on Friday 10 May. This year’s edition, which kicks off the three-year partnership between the 50 Best organisation and Singapore Tourism Board, is poised to attract even more of Asia’s cocktail pioneers, as well as national and international media.
While many eyes at the awards countdown will be on Singapore’s Manhattan – will it retain the top spot on the list for the third year running? – the region’s top bars and bartenders will also be vying for a range of prizes including:
· The Campari One To Watch, which recognises a bar that is not on the list, but considered a rising star in the region
· The Altos Bartenders’ Bartender, as voted for by the bartenders from the establishments in the 2019 list
· The Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award, which spotlights the bar on the list with the highest sustainability rating, as determined by audit partner The Sustainable Restaurant Association
Bars and cocktail lovers across Asia are invited to join the live countdown of the list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019 on the evening of Thursday 9 May from 8:45pm. The gala awards ceremony will be aired through a live stream on .

It is our honour to hold the awards ceremony here for a second year, and we look forward to paying tribute to the best bars in the region against the backdrop of Asia’s leading cocktail city.”
Carrie Kwik, Executive Director, Attractions, Entertainment and Tourism Concept Development, Singapore Tourism Board, says: “Singapore, with its ever-growing pool of innovative cocktail bars, claimed 12 coveted spots on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars’ list in 2018. We are thrilled to kick-start our three-year partnership with William Reed Business Media, the company behind the 50 Best brand, to anchor a series of 50 Best events in Singapore. The Asia’s 50 Best Bars list was introduced in 2016 as an extension of The World’s 50 Best Bars, which launched in 2009. The annual list is created from the votes of more than 200 industry experts from across Asia and saw representation from 14 Asian cities in 2018.
#50BestTalks presents first all-female line-up of panellists
The Asia’s 50 Best Bars festivities will include the #50BestTalks event on the afternoon of Friday 10 May. The thought-leadership and discussion platform is an integral part of the 50 Best brand, and brings together leading industry talent, bar owners and media to encourage positive change in the drinks sector. This year’s #50BestTalks features an all-female line-up of panellists and provides a platform for women in the bar sector to tackle key topics, trends, cocktails and bar culture under the title ‘Female Spirit’. Further details will be confirmed at a later date.
Hot on the heels of Asia’s 50 Best Bars’ awards ceremony and #50BestTalks is the launch of Singapore Cocktail Festival (SGCF), a week-long showcase of the region’s vibrant cocktail culture from 10 to 18 May. Asia’s 50 Best Bars will work with SGCF to bring its celebration of the best bars and bartenders across the continent to the Festival Village on Empress Lawn from 10 to 12 May.
Asia’s 50 Best Bars and The World’s 50 Best Bars are part of William Reed Business Media, the company that also owns Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
How the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list is compiled
The Asia’s 50 Best Bars list was introduced in 2016 as an extension of The World’s 50 Best Bars, which launched in 2009. The list is created from the votes of the Asia’s 50 Best Bars Academy, an influential group of over 200 leaders in the bar sector across Asia, each selected for his or her expert opinion of the drinking scene. The panel comprises drinks journalists, bartenders and owners, and well-travelled cocktail aficionados. Members list seven choices in order of preference, based on their best bar experiences over the last 18 months. A minimum of three of the votes must go to bars located outside his or her country of residence. There is no pre-determined checklist of criteria but there are strict voting rules.
