This December, ION Art gallery will host three exhibitions that seek to discover the roots of local art, exploring influences from East Asia.

Nanyang Sentiments (Now – 10 December 2017) is a comprehensive showcase of works by three generations of local artists. The exhibition, centred around the concept of “Modern” traces the development of Chinese art in 20thcentury Singapore when East met West. Exploring the interpretation of life and living during that period, more than 50 nostalgic and beautifully rendered paintings are on display giving visitors a glimpse into the past.
INHERITANCE VS FREEHAND – Creative Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition 2017 (13 – 19 December 2017) is a Chinese calligraphy exhibition of more than 50 works by four leading masters. The calligraphy masters have learnt the lettering art with patience and practice throughout the years. Their take on creative Chinese calligraphy remains rooted in tradition and aims to pique the curiosity of the mind with unique art creations and aesthetics.
Kontemporari 2017 (22 December–1 Jan 2018) will showcase the works from the Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (APAD), a non-profit art group based in Singapore. The 47th iteration of this annual art exhibition is set to feature works from non-members of the APAD, ranging from students to established artists. The artworks on display will be judged by a curatorial committee, and awards will be presented to the top three winners at the opening ceremony. The exhibition hopes to raise funds for APAD and to encourage art acquisition.
